Love Is In The Air!
Ah February, you are here already. And the stores and our inboxes are filled with chocolates, stuffed furry animals and many other goods which is a not-so-subtle reminder that Valentine’s Day is fast approaching!
I usually cringe at the sight of this Valentine’s Day paraphernalia – for the record, I am not cringing because I am cold hearted; but because I think we should express the love we have for those close to us throughout the year, and not need to be reminded to do it by Mr Hallmark et.al. (who so very lovingly charge us a premium for this kind reminder by the way!).
But no cringing for me this year, being surrounded by all this seasonal merchandise has instead got me thinking about Love. Not the Valentine’s Day type of love we declare to others, but the much more important (and non-commercialised) real type of love – the love we have for ourselves and our life.
I wonder if I am seeing February in a much brighter and loved up light this year because for the first time in a long time I can honestly say that I am truly in love with my life, and I love who I am as a person.
I made some big and purposeful changes to my life in 2017 so that I now live a life that’s more aligned to what’s really important to me; and I am really seeing the results of these changes.
In 2017 I got serious about my health and wellbeing by making some really positive changes to what I ate and how I exercised; as well as focusing on improving my mental wellbeing by introducing gratitude, mindfulness and meditation into my life – all of which has also attributed to reducing my stress levels. I became much more purposeful about what activities I spend my time on and who I spend my time with, so I manage my time much more wisely and nourishingly; and I also launched my coaching business – focusing my career on doing something I love by having the opportunity to help others to make positive changes to their lives.
Reminiscing about this journey I have realised that I have also changed my opinion of myself and I am proud to say that I love myself much more than I did this time a year ago. The old me was always tired, run down, grumpy, never living in the moment, and honestly not that much fun to be around. Whereas now I have much more energy, I am happier, I am kinder and more helpful to others, and I am nicer to be around – and very importantly – I am also much nicer to myself. I no longer give myself a hard time if things don’t go to plan, I no longer sweat the small stuff, and I find it much easier to let go and move on from past grudges and not let negativity weigh me down.
So, as I am feeling all loved-up, I am declaring February as the Month of Love. I’ll be sharing throughout the month various tips that have transformed my life and that I regularly use to ensure I live a life I love. I’ve also got a Love Your Life workshop I’ll be running in Melbourne later this month too.
I hope you take a minute to pause, ask yourself and reflect whether you truly love your life and yourself.
If the answer is not what you want to hear, you can make changes. If I can do it, I know you can too. You deserve to love your life – and yourself.
